On January 19, 2023, on the feast of the Holy Theophany - the Baptism of the Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom and the rite of the Great Blessing of Water at the Dormition Cathedral in London.
His Grace was assisted by Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky, Dean of the Diocesan District of South East England Archpriest Vitaly Polishchuk, Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch and Deacon Victor Nikiforov.
Liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the Dormition Cathedral under the direction of Dmitry Tugarinov.
After the augmented litany, the Archpastor proclaimed a prayer for the granting of peace.
After the prayer behind the ambo, while singing the troparion “The Voice of the Lord on the Waters,” the clergy went to the center of the church, where His Grace Vladyka performed a great blessing of the water.
On this day, the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the 129th anniversary of the repose of St. Theophan, the Recluse of Vysha (1894). At the end of the rite of the great consecration of water, Vladyka Matthew consecrated the newly painted icon of St. Theophan the Recluse, which will be placed in one of the wall icon cases of the Cathedral. Vladyka expressed words of gratefulness and gratitude to benefactors and icon painters for their help and efforts in creating the icon and expressed the hope that, with God's help, and with the good participation of the parishioners and benefactors of the church, other icons would be painted for the Cathedral.
At the end of the service, Vladyka Matthew congratulated the clergy and parishioners on the feast of Theophany and delivered a word of sermon and spiritual edification.
