« On Great Friday, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh co-served with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill at Vespers with the procession with the Shroud of the Savior in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior »

On April 22, 2022, on Great Friday, the day dedicated to the remembrance of the Holy Saving Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated Vespers with the procession with the Shroud of the Savior at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
His Holiness was assisted by Metropolitan Dionysius of Voskresensk, Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate, the first vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia for the city of Moscow,  Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, temporary Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and Canada, archpriest Mikhail Ryazantsev, Dean of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior,  Archimandrite Alexy (Turikov), personal secretary of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, and  Moscow clergy.
Liturgical hymns were performed by the Patriarchal Choir of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior (choir master I. B. Tolkachev).
At the end of Vespers, while singing the troparion “Noble Joseph, from the tree took down Thy Most Pure Body”, the Holy Shroud depicting the burial of Christ was transferred from the altar to the middle of the Cathedral.
The sermon was delivered by Metropolitan Dionisyus of Voskresensk.
Then the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated Small Compline, at which the canon "On the Crucifixion of the Lord and on the Lamentations of the Most Holy Theotokos" was read.
