« Bishop Matthew of Sourozh took part in the funeral service for Archbishop Anatoly (Kuznetsov) »

On January 28, 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, temporary Administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA and Canada, took part in the Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, Sergiev Posad, and in the funeral service for the newly departed Archbishop Anatoly (Kuznetsov).
In the center of the cathedral there was a coffin with the body of the late Archbishop Anatoly, who reposed in the Lord on January 26.
The services were led by the Abbott of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, Bishop Kirill of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov.
During the Divine Liturgy, the Bishops were assisted by the inhabitants of the Lavra in holy orders and guests of the monastery.
At the end of the Liturgy, the Archpastors served the funeral service for the newly departed Archbishop Anatoly. After the stichera for kissing the departed, “Come, faithful ones,” the clergy approached for the last farewell to Vladyka Anatoly. The funeral service ended with the proclamation of “Eternal Memory.”
With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', the late Vladyka Anatoly was buried in the historical necropolis of the Moscow Theological Academy, which is located on the territory of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra. Before the burial, Bishop Kirill and Bishop Matthew served a funeral litany at the grave of Archbishop Anatoly.
With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew, on the day of the funeral of Bishop Anatoly, a panikhida was served at the Dormition Cathedral in London for the late Archpastor, who served in the Sourozh diocese as a vicar bishop for more than a quarter of a century.
