« Liturgy at the Shrine of St Frideswide of Oxford »

On Thursday 15th June the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the shrine of St Frideswide in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, with the blessing of Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, and by kind permission of the Dean and Chapter of Church Cathedral.

St Frideswide (+735) is the patron saint of the city and university of Oxford.
The Liturgy was celebrated by Archpriest Stephen Platt, Rector of the parish of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Oxford and Dean of the Central England diocesan district. A large congregation of parishioners and students prayed at the service.
At the end of the Liturgy Fr Stephen said farewell to those who were leaving Oxford after completing their studies, and wished continuing students a good vacation and a well-deserved rest.

Following the dismissal of the Liturgy, all were able to venerate the shrine of the saint, beneath which it is believed her holy relics lie. A time of fellowship followed at the coffee hour provided by parishioners of St Nicholas’ Church.
