« The funeral of Archpriest John Lee took place in London »

The funeral of Archpriest John Lee, former Dean of the London Cathedral of the Dormition, took place  at St Andrew's, Holborn on Tuesday, 1st July.  The reading of the Gospel before the funeral ended at Lk 8:15, 'But that (seed) on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience' - truly a fitting epitaph for Father John.

Archpriest Patrick Hodson, Dean of the UK Deanery of the Exarchate of Parishes of Russian Tradition in Western Europe, was the chief celebrant. Archpriests Maxim Nikolsky and Joseph Skinner of the London Cathedral and Archpriest Stephen Platt, Rector of the St Nicholas Parish in Oxford, concelebrated together with many of the clergy of the Exarchate Deanery, including Fr Stephane Maikovsky, who succeeds Fr John as Rector of the Dormition Parish in Holborn, and Archpriest Alexander Fostiropoulos, Rector of the Parish of Ss Peter & Paul in Clapham.  Fr Vitaly Serapinas from the ROCOR Cathedral of the Dormition and the Royal Martyrs in Chiswick also participated.  Altogether 13 priests were gathered around the coffin, and approximately 150 faithful prayed at the funeral including some of the older parishioners of the Cathedral who knew Fr John personally.

The funeral was followed by the burial at Richmond Cemetery and a reception near Fr John's home in Barnes.
