In the Beginning was the Word:
The Word of God in Creation, Scripture and Worship
May 30th - June 1st, 2025
Highgate House Christian Conference Centre in Northamptonshire
The Sourozh Diocesan Conference is an annual gathering of clergy and laity from Britain and Ireland. It was established in the 1970’s by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom). Each year there is a theme addressed by invited speakers and discussed by the participants. The Conference also provides a valuable opportunity for the members of our extensive diocese to meet one another face to face.
Diocesan Conference at Effingham - ca 1985
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Heb. 4:12). It lies at the foundation of our existence and at the heart of our faith. From the first chapter of Genesis, through the Prologue of John's Gospel to the last page of Revelation, the Word speaks to us and calls us into the Father's love. Every day we can be fed by the Word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Mt 4:4). In the Divine services we are called to attend to the Word as it is conveyed to us in the Sacred Scriptures. Our speakers will open up various aspects of the divine a life-giving Word of God, that we may better understand it and be equipped to share it with those around us who have yet to hear it.
The Conference will explore the theme in a series of talks, seminars and group discussions and there will be a special programme for children aged 5 - 15.
